ELECTRONIC PROGRAMMER SYSTEM FOR XM471 PROJECTILE,

Abstract

The programmer for the XM471 projectile is a gun-rugged, dual-channel, electronic timer. Each timer can be set to operate at any time between 8.0 and 79.9 sec in increments of 0.1 sec with an accuracy of + or - 0.1 sec. The timer is set with a single current pulse through a 27-pin connector located on the surface of the projectile. The programmer provides the following functions: (1) safety using electrical and mechanical environmental sensing devices, and an electronic safe-separation device; (2) the arming signals for the warhead and proximity fuze; (3) selects the proximity-fuze burst heights; (4) fires the warhead in the event the proximity fuze is not operating properly or if timer option is selected. Two timers and setback gates were fabricated. One time was field tested. (Author)
