STUDIES ON BURNS AND WOUND HEALING, VOLUME I.

Abstract

This report represents investigations with regard to burns and wound healing. Experimental studies include a variety of shock studies in the acute burn. A detailed study on one patient has been carried out in the clinical study center which has greatly facilitated the necessary control of therapeutic measures and accurate collection and correlation of data. Additional renal function studies in relation to burn shock have been carried out on other burn patients. A group of blood viscosity studies have been performed which represents the first recorded measurement of this parameter in human burns. A variety of local wound studies have been conducted again this year consisting of iontophoresis of the burn wound, studies in autotransplantation and homotransplantation utilizing mucous membrane from the hamster, tissue tolerance and healing properties of various forms and the new silicone fluids. A progress report of a very extensive experimental study related to tumor production in scar tissue with particular reference to burn scars is included in this report. Additional experience with the utilization of tissue oxygen tension studies to gain further basic information on the changes occurring in the burned patient are included. (Author)
