DIODE, MILLIMETER WAVE TYPE MIXER (3.2 MM).

Abstract

The object of this program is to develop and evaluate point contact and tunnel diodes for use as mixers at 3.2 millimeters. Insertion loss and VSWR data are presented on a mica window for the integral waveguide-diode mount. Families of curves on conversion loss versus forward bias and LO power are presented for three sealed mixers utilizing the mica window. The problem of a poor IF VSWR is considered and still must be resolved. Data on the video detection characteristics of the sealed diodes are presented. Dual trace scope presentations are employed as a means of comparing the diodes' electrical performance versus life time. Finally, crystal noise ratio measurements are presented which result in establishing an optimum intermediate frequency to use. (Author)
