NONCONFORMANCE OF NAVY PAINTS TO SPECIFICATIONS,

Abstract

Many paints from Navy stock fail to meet specification requirements. Data on paints analyzed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard over the last 6 years are presented. Well over half the paints submitted to preliminary analyses at the Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory were found to fail tests for weight per gallon, viscosity, total solids, or pigment content.
