EVALUATION OF GAS BEARINGS FOR USE IN NAVAL MACHINERY UNDER CONDITIONS OF FRAME OSCILLATION AND IMPACT,

Abstract

A 10,000 rpm gas-bearing machine having a 61.5lb rotor was experimentally subjected to lowfrequency non-impulsive frame oscillations and also to frame impact. Peak bearing-housing accelerations achieved during the oscillation and impact tests were 4 g's and 18 g's respectively. Capacitance probe displacement transducers were used to measure dynamic bearing responses throughout the tests. This report dscribes the test machine and test results in detail. (Author)
