NOVEL MICROWAVE FILTER DESIGN TECHNIQUES.
Abstract
Efforts were continued on a program to develop design techniques for waveguide, strip-line, and coaxial-line microwave filters. Design equations are presented for capacitively loaded interdigital impedance-matching networks. Calculated frequency responses presented here demonstrate that the design equations are usable for bandwidth up to 30 percent. An experimental diplexer based on a previously designed network consisting of a band-stop and a band-pass filter connected in shunt at their inputs was constructed and tested. Tables of element values are presented for lumpedelement, maximally flat, impedance-transforming networks. These circuits consist of a ladder network formed using series inductances and shunt capacitances; they give a maximally flat impedance match between resistor terminations of arbitrary ratio. New equal-ripple polynomials were determined and applied to the synthesis of symmetrical, TEM-mode, coupled-transmission-line directional couplers (using exact methods). Tables of designs for symmetrical couplers of three, five, seven and nine sections, having mean couplings of -3.01, -6, -10, and -20 db, and having several equalripple tolerances in the coupling band are presented.
