LASER MATERIALS

Abstract

The objective of this program is the development of new laser materials. The approach being taken has been divided into three separate phases: Phase A - the search, synthesis, and crystal growth of suitable candidates for laser host materials, Phase B - the synthesis and crystal growth of such systems, consisting of the host and a chosen activator, and Phase C - the materials evaluation of these systems through measurement of relevant spectroscopic properties. The host materials under investigation are Y2O3, LaAlO3, and YAlO3. The levels of success achieved with these three materials during the report period are summarized.
