A FACTOR ANALYSIS OF THE SEMANTIC-EVALUATION ABILITIES. STUDIES OF APTITUDES OF HIGH-LEVEL PERSONNEL,

Abstract

This study attempts to identify basic traits with respect to which individuals differ from one another in evaluative performances. Six hypothesized factors of evaluation were deduced from a theory of intellectual abilities (the structureof-intellect model). These six factors pertain to the evaluation of verbal information. One of the major objectives was to determine whether it could be demonstrated that there are such distinguishable abilities; distinguishable from one another and also from abilities in other operation categories, particularly cognitive abilities. Twenty-two tests were developed or revised for this study. Twenty marker tests were included in the battery in order to demonstrate the unique existence of the hypothesized factors as distinct from six known factors of cognition and two known factors in the convergent and divergent areas of the structure-of-intellect model.
