RESEARCH STUDY FOR INCREASING THE SENSITIVITY OF PHOTOEMITTERS.
Abstract
The comparative study of Sb deposits from Sb and PtSb beads has been completed. Photoemission and light absorption of K3Sb have been investigated as a function of the Sb substrate. Experiments with S-20 cathodes formed on oxidized Sb substrates have been continued. K3Sb photocathodes have been prepared by the simultaneous deposition from molecular beams with sensitivities comparable to those processed conventionally. A new all-metal molecular gun with fast response and good stability has been developed. A new circuit for automatic control of the deposition from molecular beams has been constructed. Electron diffraction studies of S-1 cathodes have confirmed the presence of Ag and Cs2O in the finished cathodes. Alkali ion beams have been shown to be a promising source of alkali metal for photocathode preparation. Structural analysis of K3Sb as a function of processing has been initiated. Vapor etching and diffusion of Ge to produce p-n junctions for field induced photoemission have been carried out. (Author)
