DIRECT AND INDIRECT ELECTRON CONTROL BY PHOTOCONDUCTIVE ELEMENTS.

Abstract

This report contains the preliminary work and ideas on the means of controlling electrons by photoconductors which may make possible a night sky image converter system. Two main topics are considered: (a) modifications to mosaic type solid state image intensifiers to make them responsive to the near infrared region and (b) control of space currents in vacuum tube-like structures by photoconductors. Additional stages of gain, both visible and electron multiplication, are shown to be necessary to reach low level operation in any of the concepts. Experimental and theoretical ideas are discussed.
