AN IMPROVED VISCOELASTIC TORSION PENDULUM.

Abstract

An apparatus is described for the measurement of the complex shear modulus of viscoelastic materials. The apparatus consists of a modified Nonius torsion pendulum driven in forced vibration by either a low frequency sinusoidal current or by a constant current source. The specimens tested may be either circular or rectangular in cross section. The frequency range of the apparatus is .001 to 3 cps. Calibration of the pendulum, reduction of the data, and examples of typical results are presented. (Author)
