A COMPARISON OF OBJECTIVE HURRICANE FORECASTING METHODS AND ATTEMPTS TO COMBINE TWO OR MORE OF THESE METHODS

Abstract

This report statistically compares the existing forecasting techniques of movement with the official hurricane movement forecast. Several forecasting methods are combined and various data stratifications are tried in an attempt to improve on the official forecast. The results are encouraging, although not conclusive because of the limited data sample.
