THE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF CSI2BR.

Abstract

The structure of CsI2Br has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The unit cell is orthorhombic, space group Pmcn, with dimensions a = 6.634, b = 9.567, and c = 10.958 A. The cell contains 4 formula units and all atoms lie on mirror planes. The structure was refined by three-dimensional least squares to R = 0.056. The anion dimensions are Br-I(2) = 2.906 and I(2)-I(3) = 2.777 A, and Br-I(2)-I(3) = 178.0 degrees. The structure is isomophous with that of CsI3. (Author)
