WAVE-INDUCED FORCES ON A SHIP HULL (DURCH WELLEN AN EINEN SCHIFFESKORPER ERREGTE KRAFTE),

Abstract

Computations of wave-excited forces on ship hulls are not based on rigorous solutions of hydrodynamic phenomena, and the exactness of the approximations which must be employed is often not known. In this paper, the author reviews earlier computational attempts and proceeds to develop a method which permits evaluating the strip method and determining the appropriateness of applying corrections. The paper includes experimental work carried out to confirm results obtained by theoretical methods. Results given are limited to a ship in rest and not in forward motion, i.e., ship speed is considered zero. (Author)
