DETERMINATION OF RESPONSES OF PROTECTED AND UNPROTECTED ELECTRIC INITIATORS TO ELECTRICAL STIMULI.

Abstract

The effectiveness against electromagnetic fields of ten samples of Metavac ferrite-ceramic RF attenuators, intended for application as in-line protective devices for electroexplosive initiators, was measured. The measurements were performed over the frequency range from 100 cps through 10 gc. Quantities directly measured were input impedance, load impedance of the connected inert MK-1 squib, transfer impedance, or ''Degree of Protection''. These data were used to compute the evaluation parameters Power Attenuation, ''Corrected Power Attenuation'', and minimum possible Insertion Loss, which are presented in graphic form. The time delay of all samples was found to be less than the 0.2 microsecond resolution available in the instrumentation. (Author)
