RADIATION EFFECTS.

Abstract

This is a comprehensive report of recent studies on radiation damage to electronic components and materials as reported in the Soviet open literature during the period 1960-1963. In compliance with ATD Work Assignment 65, it is intended to be the first in a continuing review of Soviet findings in this field. The report includes all available Soviet experimental and theoretical material dealing with the formation of temporary and permanent radiation defects in electronic materials and with the experimental techniques used in radiation testing. The pertinent subjects of radiation tests, in the order of their frequency of appearance in the Soviet literature, fall into four broad categories: semiconductors, dielectrics, ferrites, and discrete components. The substantial coverage also given in Soviet radiation literature to related subjects such as metals, alkali halides, and insulating materials, has been arbitrarily omitted as peripheral to the scope of the present task.
