GASTRIC MOTILITY: THE ELECTROGASTROGRAM.

Abstract

This report discusses interrelations between gastrointestinal activity and the behavior of the organism as a whole. A method of recording the electrogastrogram, EGG, from electrodes fixed to the skin surface of the abdomen is described. The report starts with a brief history of various methods for recording gastric activity; it then proceeds to discuss the nature of the EGG and the techniques for analyzing the records obtained. It ends with a brief summary of research results which provide information about the source of the potentials and about the validity of the method. (Author)
