RESEARCH IN INFORMATION RETRIEVAL: AN INVESTIGATION OF THE TECHNIQUES AND CONCEPTS OF INFORMATION RETRIEVAL

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to present the results of a research project on information retrieval. A general system model is presented, and this model is used to express the problem of system specification in terms of four questions: (1) How is the descriptive structure of the retrieval system generated, (2) How are descriptions assigned to documents, (3) How is the file organized and (4) How is a query processed in order to determine a response.
