PHYSICAL AND RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF NITROSO RUBBERS.

Abstract

Two nitroso gum samples were characterized as to molecular weight and similarity. Intrinsic viscosity measurements indicated molecular weights of from 1.38 to 1.57 x 10 to the 6th power. Insoluble content varied from 6 to 37% and fingerprinting by solution viscosity indicated that the two nitroso gums were different. Three solvents, FC-75, FC-43 and Freon 113, proved adequate for viscosity measurements. Light scattering measurements on an old 3M-produced gum indicated a weight average molecular weight of 400,000 as was predicted from viscosity measurements. (Author)
