INVESTIGATION OF LONG RANGE INTERCEPT AND ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES.

Abstract

The purpose of this contract is, first, to investigate intermodulation suppression techniques in broadband preamplifiers, and second, to study analytically and experimentally the tunnel diode in broadband, low noise microwave mixer operation. Intermodulation distortion caused by the nonlinearity of many electronic devices can limit the dynamic range of an amplifier. The distortion important to wideband preamplifiers is discussed. An analytical expression for the tunnel diode I-V curve has been developed on an empirical basis which appears to present a close fit with the observed characteristics and permits separation of temperature dependent and independent terms. Experimental measurements of the static I-V curves and harmonic components of the complex current waveform have been completed. (Author)
