Recent Advances in Mechanical Impedance Instrumentation and Applications

Abstract

This report discusses an automatic impedance measurement system of high precision, results of round robin evaluation of electronics of various mechanical impedance measurement systems, new developments in mechanical impedance instrumentation such as improved vibration generators and a miniature impedance head, and the application of new impedance measurement techniques. These techniques have been applied to the evaluation of dynamic properties of resilient mountings, couplings, damped structures, and damping and viscoelastic materials and to the determination of the internal damping of materials as a function of vibratory stress, added water mass of propellers, and elastic moduli of heterogeneous materials such as fiber-glass.
