REPORT ON THE GENERATION, SELECTION, AND IMPLEMENTATION OF BURST ERROR CORRECTION AND DETECTION FIRE CODES.

Abstract

This paper consists of or considers three aspects -- generation, selection, and implementation -- of the Fire code. Part I is the generation of all error correction and detection Fire codes through generator degree 25. These codes are listed in the tables of Appendix C. The codes were generated in order to ease selection of the 'best' code or to evaluate the capabilities of several codes, which has been nearly impossible because of the lack of a table of codes. Part II demonstrates the feasibility of implementing Fire codes by the use of existing shift register techniques and binary circuit elements. Shortening the code and varying certain code parameters are investigated in terms of the effect on complexity of hardware. Generating additional codes is feasible and highly desirable from the user standpoint, but is limited in this report in the interest of conserving space. (Author)
