DEVELOPMENT OF AN ACOUSTIC IMPEDANCE MEASURING INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEM FOR USE INSIDE A PIPING SYSTEM.

Abstract

A miniature, probe-type device for measuring the acoustic impedance inside a piping system would be a useful tool for experimental study of sound propagation within the system and mechanism of acoustic energy transfer between fluid and pipe walls. The best approach for the design of such a device would be the theory that the instantaneous sum and difference of acoustic pressures at two points separated by a small distance are proportional, respectively, to the pressure and particle velocity at the center of separation. The extent of progress is presented in the development of an acoustic impedance measurement system, based on such a theory. (Author)
