BASIC METALLURGY OF DIFFUSION BONDING.

Abstract

Diffusion studies were begun to determine the effect of exposure to elevated temperature on diffusion bonded joints. Specimens were heattreated in a cold-wall vacuum furnace in a vacuum of 0.00005 Torr for 10 hours at bonding temperature. An extensive metallographic examination of specimens was completed and the mechanical testing of diffusion heat treated specimens has been started. Mechanical testing of as-bonded joints is being continued to gather baseline data on the selected systems. (Author)
