THERMOCHEMISTRY OF SELECTED COMPOUNDS.

Abstract

In this quarter, the objective was to improve upon the method of obtaining the heat data in an effort to reduce the level of uncertainty resulting from the work performed in the last quarter. In the reactions studied, the aluminum borohydride was allowed to react with the vapor of water or hydrochloric acid existing in the closed raction vessel. The source of this water or acid vapor was 2 cc of the liquid contained in a vial attached to the stem of the crushing mechanism of the bomb. The most satisfactory of these runs were those performed using 37% hydrochloric acid as the liquid whose vapor entered into the reaction with aluminum borohydride. (Author)
