RESEARCH ON SUBSTITUTED FLUOROCARBONS.

Abstract

A new synthesis of trifluoromethylhypofluorite (CF3OF) was investigated. The preparation of this compound was accomplished by spark-initiated reactions between trifluoromethane and oxygen difluoride. When small amounts of nitrogen are present in explosive reactions of methane and oxygen difluoride, fluorine nitrate is produced. When oxygen difluoride is mixed with nitric oxide, equimolar mixtures of nitryl fluoride and nitrosyl fluoride are produced. A mechanism for this reaction is proposed. (Author)
