A DIGITAL FORMATTER AND RECORDING SYSTEM FOR THE OPTICAL DISCRIMINATION SYSTEM,

Abstract

A digital formatter and recording system capable of accepting data from several sources and producing an IBM compatible tape is discussed. The formatter can handle data from an optical multiple-target tracker, azimuth and elevation angles of a sensor, aircraft attitude reference and range time. The system will be used for recording data from some of these sources at the Kwajalein Test Site. The magnetic tape will be sent back to Redstone Arsenal for data reduction. This equipment makes it possible to utilize the automatic digital optical tracker and collect tracking data on multiple objects. Range time and TV azimuth and elevation are also recorded to assist correlation with other instrumentation. The formatter and recorder offer the optical discrimination system the capability of collecting large amounts of data and utilization of general purpose digital computers for data reduction.
