EVALUATION OF VARIOUS TOPCOATS AS GENERAL PURPOSE FINISHES FOR SUPERSONIC AIRCRAFT,

Abstract

Specification MIL-C-22750 epoxy, AM-P-95K acrylic and experimental aliphatic and aromatic type polyurethane coatings were evaluated for potential use as general purpose finishes for high performance aircraft. An aliphatic polyurethane formulation, AML-P-43 MS was recommended for service testing. The AML-P-43 MS topcoat was found to withstand one-year exposure in Florida with no apparent chalking or loss in gloss. It was equal to or superior to the other topcoats in other film properties.
