SPACINGS.

Abstract

This paper deals with the distribution theory of statistics based on spacings (differences) between successive order statistics. Known results are reviewed and some new results are presented, particularly on the asymptotic theory of spacings, with emphasis on applications to distribution-free goodness-of-fit tests. Numerical data on airplane accidents are used as illustrations. (Author)
