ULTRARELIABLE TRANSCEIVER.

Abstract

The solid state, ultrareliable UHF transceiver is a research vehicle to demonstrate how the optimum combination of microelectronics and redundancy can improve reliability. The significant specification is the requirement for two years operation at a 98 percent confidence level with no maintenance and without degradation of performance. This feature can ultimately result in substantial savings to the Navy. For example, if this degree of reliability were extended to all electronic equipment on board ship, the ramifications would be enormous. (Author)
