OBSTACLE INFLUENCE IN A WIND TUNNEL,

Abstract

Measurements of mean wind flow around models of the Athena launcher housing, Green River, Utah, were made in the U. S. Army Electronics Research and Development Activity wind research facility at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. These measurements were made in an effort to simulate obstacle effects of wind flow around the actual launcher housing. Wind perturbations occasioned by the housing are considered a possible influence on wind sensor readings from a near-by meteorological pole. A series of mean velocity profiles taken in the lee of the two models in the wind tunnel is presented. Salient features of the profiles are pronounced attenuation below one obstacle height and relatively small changes with downstream distance over the limited range of distance measured. (Author)
