CESIUM 131 TRACER FOR YIELD DETERMINATION IN CESIUM RADIOCHEMISTRY,

Abstract

Cesium 131 is shown to be the most suitable isotope for use as tracer in chemical yield determinations in the low-level radiochemistry of cesium 137 in samples from the environment. The conditions for cyclotron preparation of Cs131 of very high radiochemical purity are described as are the preparation and use of a generator for the repeated separation of Cs131 from its parent Ba131. Counting precautions to be followed are outlined when Cs131 is used before beta or gamma determination of Cs137. (Author)
