EFFECTS OF STRAIN-GRADIENT ON STRESS-CONCENTRATION AT A CYLINDRICAL HOLE IN AN ELASTIC SOLID.

Abstract

The solution of the problem of a cylindrical hole in a field of simple tension is obtained in the linear theory of elasticity in which the potential energy-density depends on both the strain and the gradient of the strain. The stress-concentration factor at the surface of the cylindrical hole is found and it is compared with the analogous results obtained in couple-stress theory and in classical elasticity. (Author)
