IMMUNOCHEMICAL DISTRIBUTION OF CORTICOSTERONE IN RAT ADRENAL.

Abstract

Corticosterone hemisuccinate was synthesized and conjugated to bovine serum albumin in covalent linkage. Rabbit antibody to the conjugate was prepared and fractionated, and some of the gamma globulin labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate. Reaction of the conjugate with absorbed antibody yielded a typical precipitin curve which displayed characteristic hapten inhibition when the antibody was preincubated with corticosterone hemi-succinate, followed by incubation with conjugate. A study of the immuno-chemical distribution of corticosterone in rat adrenal revealed peak values in glomerulosa and reticularis, with reduced amounts in middle fasciculata and medulla. Data were interpreted to correlate well with other studies, indicating a similar zonal localization. (Author)
