CALCULATION OF OPTICAL TRANSFER FUNCTIONS FROM LENS DESIGN DATA

Abstract

This report describes the basic theory and the method of operation of a computer program for calculating the optical transfer function of a lens system. The program determines the wavefront aberration, and the shape of the exit pupil (vignetted or otherwise) and uses this information to derive the transfer function in any image plane and at any field angle. Typical results, for a modern aerial reconnaissance lens, are given and compared with measurement.
