PHOSPHORANE POLYMERS. PART 2

Abstract

An improved method for the synthesis of phosphonyl azides resulted in the synthesis of a new class of phosphorane intermediate, the bisazidophosphorane. Subsequent reaction of these bis-azidophosphoranes with bis-tertiary phosphines resulted in polyphosphoranes from which fibers and disks could be formed. Thermal gravimetric analysis studies continue to indicate that the biphenylene linking unit provides phosphoranes which are more thermally stable than are those with p-phenylene units. Additional synthetic effort resulted in the preparation of bromophenyldiphenylphosphine and phosphonic acid intermediates.
