TEMPER Volume 1, Orientation Manual

Abstract

This volume is one of seven which describe different aspects of the TEMPER model. TEMPER, an acronym for Technological, Economic, Military and Polical Evaluation Routine, is a model for simulating global Cold War conflict and is programmed to be run on a digital computer. The goal of the computer simulation is to permit quantitative analysis of a wide range of international conflict situations. It provides insight into the complex interaction between political, economic, cultural, and military factors for up to 39 nation-groups formed from a 117 nation data base. The program is written in FORTRAN for a CDC 1604B computer. This volume provides a broad view of the TEMPER program and an overview of the theory and its implementation in the computer simulation. It contains the basic assumptions of the model and discusses in general terms the structure and operation of the TEMPER World.
