LABORATORY AND FIELD STUDY OF 'SLICKS' PRODUCED BY PLANKTON ORGANISMS.

Abstract

This report concerns the further development of studies on the surfactants produced by plankton organisms and the distribution of ultradiatoms in the Florida Strait-Bahamas area. The foaming behavior of culture media in which the organisms have been growing is reported. There is a marked variation in the amount of foam produced and its stability from one organism to the next. The abundance of ultradiatoms was estimated by the serial dilution technique. Seasonal trends and depth and location effects were noted. (Author)
