Plant Colloids for Evaluation as Plasma Extender and for Complexing with Protein Sparing Substances.

Abstract

The preparation and characterization are reported of 2-hydroxypropyl pectate. Particular emphasis was placed on duplicating an earlier preparation, designated Lot no. 2, which was the most successful in the studies on dogs. Attempts to esterify pectic acid in an agitated vessel, as opposed to pressure bottles, were made to obtain more information on the reaction mechanism. The effect of thermal degradation and degree of esterification upon viscosity and oncotic pressure was also investigated. (Author)
