THE DYE-STAIN TECHNIQUE FOR MEASURING THE SIZE OF RAINDROPS.

Abstract

A description is given of calibration experiments of the dye-stain technique for measuring the size of water drops. Relationships between stain diameter, d mm, and drop diameter, D mm, of d = 1.38D to the 1.38 power for drops at low velocities and d = 4D to the 1.36 power for drops at their terminal velocities were obtained over a drop range 0.5 to 4.5 mm.
