KINETIC INVESTIGATION OF THE NF AND NF2 RADICALS.

Abstract

The kinetics of the decomposition of N2F4 was investigated in a shock tube coupled to a t-o-f mass spectrometer in the temperature range 1200 to 3000 K. The decomposition is described by the elementary reactions: (1) N2F4 yielding 2NF2; (2) NF2 yielding NF + F; (3) 2NF yielding N2 + 2F; (4) NF + NF2 yielding N2F + F2; (5) N2F + NF2 yielding N2 + NF3; (6) F2 + NF2 yielding NF3 + F; (7) NF3 yielding NF2 + F; (8) 2NF2 yielding NF3 + NF. The kinetic and direct evidence give strong support for the existence of the N2F radical and its significance in the decomposition of N2F4. (Author)
