CONFIGURAL INFORMATION IN ITEM RESPONSES,

Abstract

This report develops a rationale for investigating systematically the amount of configural or nonlinear information in a matrix of binary item responses. Both multiple regression and eigenvalue type models are utilized in the research. Computational procedures are also developed and appropriate Fortran computer programs are presented. The technology is applied to substantive data. The contention of many clinical psychologists that it can be important to consider the configuration of a client's responses is verified. (Author)
