THERMALLY STABLE PERFLUORINATED POLYMERS

Abstract

Work on the 1,2,4-triazole polymer system, in which these heterocyclic groups are connected by perfluoroalkylene chains, included assignment of structure to cyclic product from perfluoroglutaronitrile and N2H4, opening of this cyclic product with polymerization to poly(N2-imidoyl perfluoroglutar hydrazidine), and synthesis of poly(perfluoropropylene- 1,2,4- triazole) both from the poly(imidoyl hydrazidine) and directly from the original cyclic monomer. Other routes to this type of polymer were considered. Preparation of 2,6-bis (perfluoroethyl)-4-hydroxy- 1.3.5-triazine was completed. Further study of the 2-perfluoroalkyl- 5-hydroxy-1,3,4- oxadiazoles as possible monomers for polymerization was carried out. Synthesis of a perfluoroalkyl- substituted heterocycle with an electron-donating group attached to a heteroatom, 3.5-bis(perfluoroalkyl)- 4-amino-1,2,4,4H- triazole, was completed and the structure was verified.
