PNEUMATIC CONVEYING SYSTEM FOR REMOVAL OF SAND FROM DRYDOCKS.

Abstract

The removal of sandblasing material from drydocks is a problem which has been met by a variety of removal concepts at various naval shipyards. This report describes the specifications, operating characteristics, and test results of a pneumatic-conveying system which transports the sand to a dump truck on the drydock deck, and which can be operated by the available dock air supply. The system was successful in performing its function and offers several advantages over previous methods, but does not answer the total sand-removal problem. (Author)
