DESIGN, FABRICATION AND TEST OF EXPERIMENTAL MODEL SCAP SYSTEM.

Abstract

This report covers the design, fabrication and test of an experimental model 6 HP Silent Mercury Rankin Cycle Power Plant. The SCAP (Silent Compact Auxiliary Power) System was developed to prove feasibility and show silent capabilities. The system converst heat generated from burning common hydrocarbon fuels into useful electrical power. The hermetically sealed unit consist of a mercury boiler and preheater, 24,000 RPM turboalternator pump unit, air cooled mercury condenser and necessary controls. Due to high condensing temperatures of mercury and resultant low coolant air velocities, the system has the potential of being inaudible to the human earat 100 feet under very quiet conditions. The report reviews the design, fabrication, and testing of all components developed under this contracct. (Author)
