INVESTIGATION OF PULSATING FLOW HYDRAULIC CONCEPTS.

Abstract

This final report covers an investigation of pulsating flow hydraulic concepts. The program was carried out by two methods: (1) the design, fabrication, and test effort, and (2) system comparative analyses. In the design effort, components peculiar to pulsating flow hydraulic systems were designed, fabricated, tested as individual components, and combined into a pulsating flow hydraulic system, which was tested for confirmation of the operational parameters of such a system. In the comparative system analyses, pulsating flow applications were studied for several specific vehicle installations. These indicated that pulsating hydraulics offered a definite vehicle weight advantage when applied to properly selected services. As a result of the investigation, it is recommended that the effort be continued and that laboratory studies of additional applications be made. It is also recommended that pulsating and other hydraulic components be developed to a point where they can be operated at fluid temperatures in the 1200 to 1400 F range. (Author)
