MAINLAND CHINA: SOME URBAN DATA.
Abstract
This paper is primarily designed as a cross reference to the multiplicity of names of places in the People's Republic of China and as an aid to the use of the various sources. Secondarily, it is a compilation of data on the populations and locations and reasons for being of the cities of China. There has been a hiatus of seven years between the inception of these tables and publication of the present volume and today much more authoritative studies on this area are available. It is hoped that the cross-referencing function may still be of value to those students of the Chinese scene who have found the variety of spellings and name changes difficult to coordinate and use.
