COMPARISON OF CHEMICAL ANALYSES OF REFRACTORY ALLOYS. A SURVEY CONDUCTED BY THE MATERIALS ADVISORY BOARD AS PART OF THE REFRACTORY METALS SHEET ROLLING PROGRAM (RMSRP),

Abstract

This report summarizes the activities of the Refractory Metals Sheet Rolling Subpanel on Analytical Methods in a program initiated in 1960. The panel was formed to study the problems involved in determining interstitial and alloying elements in alloys of tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, and columbium. The objectives of the Refractory Metals Sheet Rolling Subpanel on Refractory Metals were (1) to ascertain the agreement between laboratories one could expect in the determinations of interstitial and alloying elements in FS-85, TZM, T-111, and unalloyed tungsten; (2) to establish methods, through close control of variables, which would give results approximating certain goals for agreement between laboratories; and (3) to offer a forum for the interchange of information on techniques, apparatus, etc. The subpanel membership, the participating laboratories, and the complete results of the chemical analyses are presented in this report.
