MULTIPLE SLIP PROCESSES IN MAGNESIUM ALUMINATE AT HIGH TEMPERATURES

Abstract

Evidences obtained from high purity MgAl2O4 ceramics deformed at high temperatures are presented which confirm theoretically predicted multiple (111) (110) slip systems for spinel. Stress-strain and kinetic data and microstructural examinations indicate that spinel, when sufficiently pure, does meet the Taylor-von Mises criterion for generalized plastic flow of a polycrystalline solid.
