INFORMATION SYSTEMS RESEARCH. THE DEACON PROJECT.
Abstract
This report discusses progress in developing a general theory of information related to natural language. This theory underlies the work on computer systems directly accessed and controlled by a lightly constrained natural language (English). Information is viewed as a composite of the quantity of facts (observations) and the quality of the structure (language) imposed on those facts to give them relevance, the view of language is the structural portion of context suggested that computer-based systems capable of responding to change could use as organizing clues the syntactic rules of the language and their corresponding semantic transformations. To facilitate computer implementation of data structures capable of being so internally manipulated and organized, plex structures were used and a programming language (microplex) developed. (Author)
